It is said that the only thing that remains constant is change. In the coming year and hereafter, there will be a big change in the landscape along the Carlisle Pike in Mechanicsburg. Having hosted Saturday evening auto racing programs every year since its inaugural season in 1953 the Silver Spring Speedway will not open for the 2006 season.  The speedway property will be razed for the construction of a shopping center.

While there are reasons for the sale of the property, none seem as important as the memories of the 53 years of great auto racing that Silver Spring Speedway provided. Many of the regions top drivers displayed their talents and provided endless thrills in what was always competitive racing action in all divisions and classes. The scope of competitors  who drove here is truly amazing and we have stories and memories to last a lifetime.

There have been four generations involved in the operation and promotion of the speedway and it has been our privilege to be a part of Silver Spring Speedway’s rich history. It is with heartfelt sincerity that we express our thanks and appreciation to all of the many fine employees, officials, friends and family members who worked so diligently to provide a family- oriented night of entertainment.

We thank the many sponsors who supported the speedway through their generosity and involvement.

We thank all of the members of the race teams for providing the area’s most exciting wheel to wheel racing for 53 years. Thank you to the mechanics and crew members for volunteering their time and efforts to coax every ounce of performance out of their race cars.

Thank you to the many fine car owners who gave of their time and money to build and maintain a field of one-hundred plus cars a night. A special thank you to the drivers. They were the ones who captured our imagination, became our heroes and won our cheers with their feats of skill and bravery.

Most of all, thanks to the thousands of fans over the many years that filled the stands and supported the drivers and teams. Our 53 years of operation would not have been possible without you.

The cars and drivers of Silver Spring including the Sportsman, Late Models and Street Stocks will have a full racing schedule for the 2006 season. There will be fifteen Saturday evening programs at Williams Grove Speedway under the promotion of Williams Grove, Inc. and the Silver Spring cars will make several appearances at the Lincoln Speedway along with events at other area speedways. We hope that you continue to support these races and the Sportsman, Late Model and Street Stock race teams and drivers. They are great race cars and great drivers. We will continue to host the website at to update current happenings in our world of racing and will also post historical photos and records from the past seasons at Silver Spring.

It has been a great, wonderful ride the past 53 years. No matter what we do in the future or where our paths will lead us, one thing is certain, in our hearts Silver Spring Speedway will always be home. God bless you all.
